Be careful in using this term not to get it confused with the "zona glomerulosa" of the adrenal gland. In the smoke, gore, and confusion of a laboratory practical exam, I've often had students sort of toss these two terms in a bowl, and rejoin the pieces randomly to form "zona granulosa" and "membrana glomerulosa." Occasionally the zona pellucida gets thrown into the gemisch and really weird terms like "membrana pellucida" and "glomerulosa pellucida" come out. Needless to say, any and all of these terms are wrong, wrong, wrong.
